Safe Gas Plumbing and Heating Contractors Blackpool The Law Family started in the gas industry in the early 1900s. The late Harold Law started his own plumbing company straight from leaving school. His best friend at this time was one Frank Taylor.

In 1921 a 16 year old Frank Taylor borrowed £100 to build two houses in Blackpool. Too young to form his own company, his uncle, Jack Woodrow lent his name to the business and Taylor Woodrow was born. Harold Law did of course carry out all the plumbing work on these houses for his best pal Frank.

Frank Taylor had a great business mind and realised that London was the place to be to make the big money. He tried to get Harold Law to move to London to run his business with him but Harold decided to stay in Blackpool. Frank Taylor went on to huge success.
Frank was eventually knighted for his services and Taylor Woodrow went on to be one of the largest construction companies in the world.

Harold Law Plumbing Contractors continued until the outbreak of World War 2. Harold went off to fight for his country.
In 1945 Harold returned to Blackpool, he then joined one of Lancashire’s largest plumbing contractors. Blackpool Plumbing Company. Harold was the main foreman in charge of many major contracts such as schools, hospitals and so on.
Harold eventually left Blackpool Plumbing Company for a better paid position as foreman plumber for one of Blackpool’s largest building companies, Fielding’s, who ran their own brick works at Hoo Hill, Blackpool. Fielding’s were responsible for the majority of house building at that time in Blackpool.

In 1954, Harold’s son, Barry had left school and gone straight to work for British Gas as an apprentice gas fitter. Barry attended Preston Moor Lane Training Centre studying practical and theory. Barry gained his Final City & Guilds with credits. Barry also attended Bolton Technical College and The Harris Institute, Preston to take further National Certificates gaining Distinction at every level.
Eventually Barry left British Gas to set up business with his father, Harold. They immediately returned to British Gas as sub-contractors mainly working on domestic housing contracts, this work continued until the death of Harold Law in the late 1960s.

Barry then went on to form Fylde Gas Installations. During his time Barry started Gas World. This was a large chain of Retail Gas showrooms across the north of England. At one time Barry employed over 30 full time gas fitters. Barry realised that the competition was becoming too great as large retail outlets such as Comet and Apollo began to pop up and were selling gas appliances at very low prices so the company was wound down.

Although now 70 years old Barry is still working full time as a gas fitter. He is possibly the longest established member of CORGI in the North West, if not in England.
Barry has three sons. Two have followed into the family trade. Steve Law runs LAW GAS whilst Gary runs SAFE GAS.

Steve, Gary and James have all been trained to the very highest standards at SPECIALIST GAS ASSESSMENT SERVICE LTD ( SGAS ) in Blackpool.
Safe Gas now goes from strength to strength with a small workforce of highly trained and professional staff.

The Law Family have been involved in the gas industry for over 100 years now and we will still be here for many years to come. There is no substitute for experience.
